Reports recently claimed that Dubai-based Phars Films had emerged as the frontrunner to acquire the overseas distribution rights of S S Rajamouli’s upcoming film Varanasi.
The reports further suggested that negotiations with producer K L Narayana were in the final stages and that an official agreement was likely to be completed soon.
However, Phars Films has now dismissed those reports. When contacted regarding the news, the company categorically denied being part of any such negotiations.
Responding to the speculation, Phars Films stated, “Wrong news. We don’t know anything about this movie.”
The clarification has effectively put an end to reports linking the company with the much-anticipated Mahesh Babu starrer.
With Phars Films issuing a direct denial, it remains unclear who will eventually bag the lucrative overseas rights of Varanasi.
Given the massive expectations surrounding the project and Rajamouli’s track record in international markets, the overseas distribution rights are expected to attract intense competition.
Until the makers officially announce a deal, any speculation regarding the buyer is likely to remain just that — speculation.
