The latest case involving Ketan Agarwal, a 26-year-old groom-to-be, has shocked the nation.
Ketan was allegedly murdered by his fiancee, Siya Goyal, with the help of her boyfriend, Chetan, who reportedly pushed him off a cliff at Lohagad Fort.
According to police investigations and Chetan’s reported confession, the incident is being treated as a murder that was initially presented as an accident.
Following complaints and statements from Ketan’s father, Vishal Agarwal, the case gained further attention, leading investigators to uncover evidence of an alleged conspiracy to kill Ketan.
The matter is now being investigated as a case of murder and criminal conspiracy.
Four days before his death, Ketan Agarwal allegedly survived an attempt on his life by his fiancee, Siya Goyal, at Maharashtra’s Lohagad Fort.
According to Ketan’s father, Vishal Agarwal, Siya pushed him from the fort on June 14, but he managed to save himself by grabbing a bush. To avoid suspicion, she reportedly shouted about a snake approaching and hugged him.
Police later arrested Siya and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary, on charges of murder and criminal conspiracy.
Investigators concluded that the two were in a relationship and viewed Ketan as an obstacle. They allegedly lured him to the fort and pushed him to his death. Both accused are in police custody while the investigation continues.
Well, the first point is that they were not married. Both were well-educated and came from affluent backgrounds. What could be the motive for the murder? Different opinions are emerging, as the police have not yet reached a final conclusion.

“They were not married. Had they been married, one could understand a financial motive, as he was wealthy. But this is confusing. Why would a girl kill a man who came through an arranged marriage setup? If she was involved in another relationship, she could simply have called off the wedding,” said Renuka, a housewife.
“Looking at the couple’s photographs, where both appear happy and smiling, I find it difficult to believe that Siya killed him. It is possible that she was trying to avoid Chetan, but he may have tracked their movements, arrived at the fort unexpectedly, and pushed Ketan,” opined Kalyan, a netizen.
“Siya may have been torn between Chetan and Ketan, unable to make a decision. Chetan might have asked her to bring Ketan to the fort so they could reveal their relationship to him. In that situation, Siya may have taken Ketan there, and Chetan could have suddenly appeared and pushed him off the cliff,” suggested Sreenath, a software professional.
“In the 1980s and 1990s, dowry deaths frequently appeared in newspapers, often at least once a week. During the 2000s and 2010s, honor killings linked to caste and financial status became more common. Today, many parents are more willing to accept their children’s choice of partner. Yet, it seems that some members of Gen Z are resorting to extreme violence in relationships. It is difficult to understand why people choose murder when conflicts can be resolved in other ways,” said Bharat Kumar, a retired banker.
“Like in the movie Obsession, Chetan could have been intensely obsessed with Siya and may not have spared Ketan. It could be a case of cruel obsession, where Siya herself was trapped by an obsessive boyfriend and felt she had no choice but to aid him to kill Ketan,” imagined a netizen.
Whatever the final outcome of the investigation, the statements made by Ketan Agarwal’s father remain particularly poignant and heartbreaking.
“Chetan Chaudhary was arrested last night, and Siya was arrested this morning. They are now being produced in court…If she didn’t want to get married, she could have simply refused; we would have cancelled the wedding immediately. Why did they decide to take such a drastic step? What kind of mindset do they have? Their mindset is so cruel that someone’s 26-year-old son could be killed…Society needs to take note of such a cruel mindset. Where does this ideology come from, their family, their upbringing?” he asked.
The situation is understood, but it remains difficult to comprehend what actually happened and why anyone would take such an extreme step, as the father of the deceased has observed.
The police investigation must uncover the complete facts behind the case.
Above all, the incident has raised concerns about the emotional and psychological challenges faced by some members of Gen Z, highlighting the need for greater social awareness, counselling and mental health support.
