Tamil Nadu CM Joseph C. Vijay always appears quiet and rarely speaks at length in decision making meetings
.
He follows that approach for a reason. Being relatively new to the office, he is still learning the complexities of governance, decision-making, and administration.
As a result, he relies heavily on IAS officers, carefully analyzing their recommendations, understanding the implications of their decisions, and then giving the final approval.
Even during meetings in Delhi, he reportedly prefers to let his secretaries and senior officials speak on his behalf rather than taking center stage himself.
He is functioning within constitutional norms, practical constraints and administrative deadlines.
When a politician recognizes his limitations and relies on the expertise of civil servants, governance tends to run more smoothly, without the constant noise of political rhetoric.
So far, Vijay appears to be demonstrating that approach. In the process, he is also learning the intricacies of governance and administration.
In comparison, one can see how many top leaders in Andhra Pradesh are exposing their ignorance by speaking on every issue, carried away by the arrogance of temporary power. There seems to be something to learn from Vijay’s style.
