Ram Charan’s rural sports drama “Peddi” has emerged as a major box-office success, grossing over Rs 300 crore worldwide.
While the film’s theatrical run has largely ended in most regions, it continues to attract audiences in parts of Andhra Pradesh.
The focus has now shifted to its OTT release. One smart move made by the producers was closing the digital rights deal well in advance. This reportedly fetched them a handsome amount, especially at a time when the OTT market was stronger.
Industry observers point out that if the makers had waited to sell the rights this year, the deal might have fetched a lower price.
The OTT market has witnessed a slowdown in recent months, affecting the digital revenues of several big-budget films.
Netflix holds the streaming rights to “Peddi”. Going by the platform’s recent pattern of premiering Telugu films around 28 days after their theatrical release, trade circles expect the film to begin streaming on July 2, although an official announcement is yet to be made.
Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, “Peddi” stars Janhvi Kapoor as the female lead. If the expected schedule holds, the film will make its digital debut in about ten days.
