Jana Sena Party president and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan often preaches morals to leaders of other political parties about maintaining decency and decorum in politics.
He also frequently speaks against the use of abusive language against political rivals.
More often than not, Pawan Kalyan has lashed out at YSR Congress Party leaders for making derogatory comments against leaders of the alliance parties, as if he and his own party leaders are paragons of virtue.
However, there have also been several instances of Pawan himself losing control of his language and making serious remarks against rival political leaders.
He had even warned that he would trample them under his feet and skin them, using the phrase “Thokki nara teestha.”
Some of his party MLAs, too, have thrown decency and decorum to the winds in public and made cheap and abusive comments against political rivals.
If any YSRCP leader had made such comments, he would definitely have faced police cases, as happened in the case of Gudivada Amarnath.
Take the case of Jana Sena Party MLA Pantam Nanaji from Kakinada, who made derogatory remarks against YSRCP president and former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy during a press conference on Sunday.
“Naa kodaka… Evadiviraa… Dammunte Kakinada ku raa raa na kodaka…” were part of his offensive remarks.
Nanaji’s comments came just days after Pawan Kalyan publicly advocated maintaining dignity in political debates and urged leaders to restrict their criticism to policies rather than personal attacks.
YSRCP leaders questioned whether Nanaji’s comments reflected the values preached by the Jana Sena leadership.
Party spokesperson Karumuri Venkata Reddy demanded that the MLA immediately withdraw his remarks and issue an apology.
Reacting strongly, Venkata Reddy said Nanaji was not politically comparable to Jagan Mohan Reddy and warned that YSRCP supporters, particularly women, would protest if such comments continued.
He also questioned whether Jana Sena leaders had any sense of restraint in public life and recalled past instances when Pawan Kalyan had questioned other political leaders for using abusive language against Jana Sena workers.
So, it would be better if Pawan stopped talking about dignity and decorum in political discourse. He should first restrain his own party leaders and control his own language before questioning others.
