After months of uncertainty and repeated postponements, Kannada star Yash has finally locked the release date for his much-awaited action fantasy Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups.
The film will now hit theatres on August 28, placing it right in the busy Independence Day holiday corridor.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic has faced multiple delays. The film was initially planned for a March release, but was later shifted to June.
It was then pushed further, with the makers reportedly citing global uncertainties, especially the conflict in West Asia, as one of the factors affecting its worldwide release plans.
Toxic marks Yash’s return to the big screen four years after the massive success of KGF: Chapter 2, which collected over Rs 1,200 crore worldwide.
The film features Yash in a double role and boasts a strong ensemble cast that includes Tovino Thomas, Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi and Rukmini Vasanth.
However, the new release date also means Toxic will enter a crowded box-office battlefield.
The film is now set to clash with Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia’s Vvan, Shraddha Kapoor’s Eetha and the Telugu action drama Bhogi, starring Sharwanand and Anupama Parameswaran.
With multiple films targeting the same holiday window, the Independence Day corridor is shaping up to be one of the most packed and competitive release periods of the year.
Still, with Yash’s massive post-KGF craze and the scale of Toxic, the film is expected to command huge attention across languages.
