The Andhra Pradesh government on Thursday accepted the resignation of Sonti Venkata Ratna Srinivas as Managing Director of the Amaravati Growth and Infrastructure Corporation Limited (AGICL), one of the key agencies overseeing the development of the state capital.
According to official orders issued by the Municipal Administration Department, Srinivas’ resignation has been accepted with retrospective effect from June 15. The orders were issued on July 1.
APCRDA Additional Commissioner Abhishek Kumar has been given additional charge as the interim Managing Director of AGICL until further arrangements are made.
Srinivas, a retired IAS officer of the Maharashtra cadre, was appointed AGICL Managing Director in December 2025 to accelerate infrastructure development in Amaravati.
The state government had constituted AGICL to oversee construction projects under the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) and the Amaravati Development Corporation Limited (ADCL).
Soon after assuming office, Srinivas reportedly expedited several pending construction works in Amaravati by fixing project deadlines for contractors and closely monitoring their execution.
His resignation within six months of taking charge has generated considerable discussion in administrative circles, particularly because Amaravati is currently witnessing renewed infrastructure activity.
Apparently, his proactive approach did not go down well with some officials, who reportedly lodged a complaint with key political leaders in the state.
While Srinivas cited personal reasons in his resignation letter, internal differences appear to have forced him to step down. There is also talk that he has received an attractive offer from Reliance Industries.
It is also noteworthy that although Srinivas submitted his resignation on June 1, the government took nearly a month to approve it.
Reports suggest that senior government functionaries had earlier persuaded him to continue after he initially expressed his intention to quit.
The development comes amid several recent administrative changes within the APCRDA.
In March, APCRDA Commissioner Kannababu was transferred and replaced by Vijayarama Raju, while Kannababu was appointed Commissioner of Civil Supplies.
Two months ago, the government also appointed three additional commissioners to the APCRDA — Kollabathula Karthik, G. Suryasai Praveenchand and Dhathri Reddy — while Bhargav Teja continues to serve as another Additional Commissioner.
The government is now expected to decide whether to appoint a permanent Managing Director for AGICL or continue with the interim arrangement.
