The Union government on Tuesday again extended the tenure of CBDT Chairman Ravi Agrawal by six months, till December 2026.
The extended tenure of the 1988-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer was set to come to an end on Tuesday (June 30).
At the end of his tenure in June 2025, the government extended his term by a year, till June 2026.
A senior Union finance ministry officer told PTI that the latest extension was aimed at ensuring continuity in the CBDT’s direct tax policy formulation and enabling it to undertake certain special initiatives.
The CBDT is headed by a chairman and can have six members who are in the rank of special secretary.
