New details have emerged in the murder case of 26-year-old Pune-based realtor Ketan Agarwal, with police sources claiming that his fiancee, Siya Goyal, had allegedly taken around Rs 1 crore from him in the name of wedding shopping and handed it over to her lover, Chetan Chaudhary.
According to police and sources, Ketan had given the money to Siya for wedding preparations. Instead of using it for the wedding, she allegedly gave the entire amount to Chetan to help him stabilise his career and business.
Siya, 20, and Chetan, 22, have been arrested for allegedly conspiring to kill Ketan and pushing him off a cliff at Lohagad Fort in Pune on June 18.
Police sources said the two had not only planned the murder in advance but had also prepared a future timeline for themselves. Since Chetan reportedly came from a financially weak background, he had allegedly told Siya that he would need at least three years to become financially stable.
According to investigators, the two had allegedly agreed that after Ketan’s murder, Siya would remain unmarried for three years to avoid suspicion. Once Chetan became financially secure and the case faded from public attention, they allegedly planned to get married.
Investigators believe this timeline was part of a strategy to escape scrutiny and eventually gain acceptance from Siya’s family.
Meanwhile, police have also revealed more details about the alleged signal-based murder plan.
According to officials, Siya allegedly sat down not only to signal Chetan to push Ketan off Lohagad Fort, but also to ensure that she remained out of Ketan’s reach during the fall.
As per the plan, Siya was supposed to sit down either to drink water or on the pretext of tying her shoelaces. That action was allegedly the signal for Chetan, who was following them, to come forward and push Ketan into the gorge.
“The signal was chosen deliberately so that Goyal would not be within the victim’s reach during the fatal push. They feared that if Chetan pushed Ketan and he tried to grab Siya while falling, she too could fall into the gorge. The plan was made keeping her safety in mind,” an official said.
Police said Chetan also took several precautions to hide his presence on June 18. He allegedly travelled nearly 90 km from Pune to Lohagad Fort on a scooter instead of a car, fearing that a car could be detected at toll plazas.
“Chaudhary travelled to Lohagad Fort on the morning of June 18. He chose a scooter over a car as he feared the car could be detected at a toll plaza. We have seized the scooter,” a police officer said.
Investigators also found that Siya allegedly had a secret call with Chetan just 34 minutes before the murder. Sources said the call detail records are now being examined as a possible final go-ahead for the murder plot.
Police sources further claimed that the murder plan was finalised as early as the end of May. They also suspect that Siya first tried to push Ketan off a cliff on June 14, but the attempt failed after Ketan managed to save himself by grabbing a bush.
According to sources, Siya then allegedly made up a snake story and claimed that she had accidentally pushed him.
On the second attempt on June 18, Chetan allegedly followed Siya and Ketan to the fort to ensure that Ketan did not manage to escape again.
