A homicide case emerged in Georgia where a Dollar General store manager and mother of three was fatally shot following an alleged altercation over hamburger buns.
The incident occurred on Tuesday (June 23, 2026), when the victim, identified as Alexis Hill, was ringing up a customer purchasing hamburger buns worth $1.58 at a Dollar General store on Victory Drive. Authorities said the customer allegedly shot and killed her, according to WKRC and WTVM.Authorities identified the customer as 33-year-old Jerome Willis. Citing the Muscogee County Coroner’s Office, the news outlets reported that Willis handed 44-year-old Hill two crumpled $1 bills to pay for the buns. As she smoothed out the cash, he reportedly stepped aside, pulled out a gun, and shot her. Hill was shot shortly after 10 a.m. local time. According to WTVM, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan later pronounced her dead at around 10:45 a.m.Willis fled the scene and was later killed in a shootout with police at around 11:40 a.m. The confrontation also left one police officer and a police dog injured. Officers with the Columbus Police Department (CPD) located Willis in a parking lot and issued “verbal commands,” but he “did not comply,” according to a press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which is leading the investigation.The officers then deployed a K-9 unit to apprehend Willis. Authorities said he fired at the dog and pointed his weapon at the officers at the scene. Columbus police returned fire, shooting toward the suspect and striking him “multiple times,” the GBI said. Willis was pronounced dead at the scene.According to the GBI, one CPD officer was “shot during the incident.” Both the officer and the police dog “sustained non-life-threatening injuries.” According to a GoFundMe set up by Jonathan to help cover her funeral costs, Hill is survived by her three children and two grandchildren.
