Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA and former Telangana minister T Harish Rao on Saturday demanded that the Telangana government disclose the details of the recent meeting involving the chief ministers of Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The meeting took place during the inauguration of the Tungabhadra Dam gates at Hospet in Karnataka, where Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu shared the stage and reportedly held discussions.
Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan, Harish Rao questioned the secrecy surrounding the meeting and alleged that the Telangana government was withholding crucial information from the people.
Harish Rao said that while Revanth Reddy described the meeting as historic, the government had failed to explain its outcome to the people of Telangana.
He alleged that Telangana Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, senior irrigation engineers and the Engineer-in-Chief were kept out of the discussions.
He questioned why officials directly responsible for water resources were excluded and demanded that the government reveal what transpired during the hour-long meeting and how it would benefit Telangana.
Harish Rao also called upon the Telangana government to convene an all-party meeting to discuss any agreements reached with Karnataka on river water issues.
He questioned why the state’s future should be left in the hands of Union Minister C. R. Patil and alleged that Chandrababu Naidu enjoys considerable influence over the Central government.
Harish Rao further claimed that, due to Naidu’s influence, a person from Andhra Pradesh had been appointed to a key position in the Central irrigation administration.
The BRS leader accused Revanth Reddy of lacking adequate understanding of river water management and alleged that this could adversely affect Telangana’s long-term interests.
He further alleged that the Congress government had abandoned irrigation project approvals secured during the tenure of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
He accused the present government of compromising Telangana’s interests for political considerations and warned that any injustice to the state’s water rights would be strongly opposed.
Harish Rao also criticised the Telangana government for allegedly failing to challenge what he described as unauthorised irrigation projects taken up by Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, while instead participating in joint public events with their leaders.
According to Harish Rao, such actions could undermine Telangana’s long-term interests in inter-state river water sharing.
