Telugu Desam Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sana Satish launched a sharp attack on YSR Congress Party headed by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy accusing the opposition party of politicising caste issues and misleading the Kapu community.
Addressing the media at the Andhra Pradesh Secretariat in Velagapudi, Satish dismissed a recent YSRCP-organised Kapu meeting, describing it as “not a Kapu community gathering but a meeting of politically unemployed people.”
The MP referred to deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan’s recent remarks that criminals should not be viewed through the lens of caste and alleged that Jagan and YSRCP leaders had deliberately distorted those comments for political gain.
Satish also reignited the debate over reservations for the Kapu community.
He claimed that the previous Telugu Desam Party government under chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu had introduced Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) reservations benefiting Kapus, while the Jagan-led government had withdrawn them.
Questioning Jagan’s commitment to the Kapu community, Satish asked whether the former chief minister genuinely cared about Kapu welfare.
He alleged that Jagan had publicly stated in Kakinada that reservations for Kapus could not be granted, and accused YSRCP leaders of now taking contradictory positions.
The MP further alleged that YSRCP leaders were politicising every issue and making caste-based interpretations even in sensitive situations.
He also questioned the role of senior YSRCP leader Thota Trimurtulu during the arrests of Kapu activists in the Konaseema region during the previous government’s tenure.
Satish accused Jagan and his associates of using community issues for political purposes and said the opposition was attempting to create unnecessary controversy around remarks made by Pawan Kalyan.
