The current job market has become one of the toughest since the Covid-19 pandemic, and fresh graduates are feeling the heat.
A newly graduated computer science engineering student recently shared her frustration on Reddit, asking whether she was already too late to land a software job after completing her degree this month.
In a post titled “Am I Too Late to Land a Software Job After Graduating This Month?”, the student said she had completed two internships, built multiple projects, created a portfolio and spent months preparing for interviews. Despite all this, she has not been able to secure a job offer.
“I am a 2026 B.Tech CSE graduate from a tier-3 college, and I graduated this month. I’m currently unplaced. I have completed two internships, multiple projects, a portfolio, and I’ve been consistently doing DSA and interview prep. Lately, I’ve been feeling really demotivated because, despite applying for months, I haven’t had much luck,” she wrote.
The repeated rejections have left her deeply discouraged. She said she had even started thinking seriously about preparing for GATE as a backup option.
However, she admitted that the decision may have been emotional rather than practical. She said part of the reason was that she had started comparing herself with her boyfriend, who recently joined an IIM.
“Seeing him start a new chapter of life made me feel like I was falling behind,” she wrote, adding that the comparison made her feel worse about her own situation.
The student then asked whether 2026 graduates still had a realistic chance of getting off-campus jobs, especially if they had only internship experience and no full-time offer.
Her post struck a chord with many social media users, as several fresh graduates are facing similar struggles in the current hiring slowdown.
Many users encouraged her not to give up. Some said June and July are usually slow months for hiring because of the financial quarter cycle, but opportunities are still available for both 2025 and 2026 batches.
One user advised her to apply daily on job portals such as Naukri and not limit herself to only one type of opportunity.
The user also suggested moving to cities such as Bengaluru or Hyderabad, staying in a PG and networking with other job seekers.
Another user said that no one is ever truly late if they have skills. The user encouraged her to keep improving and wait for the right employer who values her abilities.
A third user said she still had a realistic chance of getting placed, even as a tier-3 college graduate.
According to the user, many candidates with internships and projects get off-campus roles after graduation, but consistency and strategy matter more than timing.
The discussion highlights the growing anxiety among fresh engineering graduates in India.
With fewer entry-level openings, high competition and delayed hiring, many students are beginning to question their career choices and future prospects.
For now, the message from many users was clear: the market may be tough, but it is not over for freshers. Skills, persistence and smart job searching can still open doors.
