The Medchal-Malkajgiri court in Telangana on Saturday granted interim bail to Bandi Bhagirath, son of Union Minister and BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar, who is currently in judicial custody in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The court allowed Bhagirath a one-week interim bail until June 26, enabling him to appear for his engineering examinations.
While issuing the order, the judge directed him to strictly comply with all bail conditions.
Bhagirath was arrested by Pet Basheerabad police on May 16 in connection with a POCSO case and was subsequently remanded to judicial custody. Since then, he had been lodged in Cherlapally Central Prison.
Seeking temporary relief, Bhagirath’s legal counsel approached the court, arguing that his academic future would be adversely affected if he were unable to appear for his examinations.
After considering the submissions, the court granted interim bail for a week. Following the court’s directions, Bhagirath was released from Cherlapally Central Prison on Saturday afternoon.
The case has attracted considerable political attention in Telangana, given that the accused is the son of a Union Minister.
The registration of a POCSO case against Bhagirath sparked widespread discussion across the state.
With the interim relief now granted, he is expected to appear for his examinations while the legal proceedings continue.
