A shocking theft case involving filmmaker and fashion stylist Rhea Kapoor, daughter of veteran actor Anil Kapoor, has come to light, little late. Diamond-studded earrings worth Rs 1.
35 crore reportedly went missing during her team’s trip to New York for a major fashion event.
Celebrity makeup artist Savleen Singh was carrying two pairs of rented luxury earrings from Mumbai-based jewellers.
The jewellery was packed in separate boxes and kept in her handbag while travelling from Mumbai to New York via Dubai.
After reaching New York and checking into a hotel, Singh opened the boxes to hand over the earrings to a team member. To her surprise, both boxes were empty.
The missing jewellery included one diamond-and-emerald earring set worth Rs 66 lakh and another valued at Rs 69 lakh. Following her return to Mumbai, Singh lodged a police complaint.
An FIR has been registered against an unidentified person.
Investigators are now trying to find out whether the theft occurred at Mumbai airport, during the flight, at Dubai transit, or after the team arrived in New York.
