New Delhi: Claims for non-medical travel insurance are increasingly outnumbering medical-coverage related cases by a huge margin, according to travel assistance and insurance company Asego.Non-medical travel insurance claims related to trip cancellations and d
elays, baggage disruptions and other operational challenges outnumber medical claims filed by travellers by a significant margin, the Mumbai-headquartered firm said, citing 2025-26 data.Asego assisted in 20,000 claims in the financial year 2025-26, of which 16,000 were for non-medical reasons, and 4,000 were for medical purposes. The findings indicate that travel protection, traditionally purchased primarily for medical coverage, is now being used to safeguard travellers against a much wider range of risks, including trip cancellations, delays, baggage disruptions, and other operational challenges, Asego said."The claims assistance trend clearly demonstrates that travel protection today serves multiple needs and extends far beyond medical emergencies," said Dev Karvat, Founder and CEO of Asego, which operates through multiple offices across India as well as key international destinations.
