The ruling Congress in Telangana appears to be facing growing internal tensions amid speculation over a possible Cabinet expansion and preparations for the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections. Senior Congress leader and MLC M Vijayashant
i, who has maintained a low profile in recent months, is reportedly in direct contact with the party high command in New Delhi.
At the same time, she has occasionally made critical remarks about the Revanth Reddy government.
According to party sources, Vijayashanti has hardly participated in Congress activities in the state but has been making frequent visits to New Delhi to remain in touch with the senior party leadership.
She has reportedly held several meetings with senior Congress leaders and members of the high command to discuss recent political developments in Telangana.
These meetings are also believed to be part of her efforts to secure a Cabinet berth or an important position in the party organisation.
Sources said Vijayashanti explained during these discussions how her induction into the Cabinet could strengthen the Congress organisation and improve the government’s political outreach.
Vijayashanti had earlier surprised many by securing a seat in the Legislative Council through strategic engagement with the party leadership.
She now appears to be making similar efforts to find a place in the state Cabinet.
However, Congress leaders maintain that a Cabinet expansion or reshuffle is unlikely to take place immediately.
Party insiders say that any final decision on ministerial appointments will largely depend on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who continues to enjoy the confidence of the Congress high command in managing both the government and the party in Telangana.
Apart from possible Cabinet changes, discussions are also underway over appointments to various party posts.
Against this backdrop, Vijayashanti’s political moves are being closely watched, with growing curiosity within Congress circles over whether she will eventually secure a ministerial berth.
