
In a landmark judgment, the Supreme Court of India has granted legal and financial recognition to the invaluable unpaid services of homemakers. The Court described homemakers as "nation builders"
for their contributions in managing households, raising children, and supporting families.A Division Bench comprising Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice N. Kotiswar Singh ruled that in motor vehicle accident cases, the notional monthly income of a homemaker should be considered at least ₹30,000 for calculating compensation payable to their dependents. This amount is in addition to the guidelines laid down in the Pranay Sethi case.
