Except for Ram Charan’s Peddi, there are no new Telugu films releasing in Hyderabad today.
The other films running are Veerabhadrudu, a Tamil-dubbed film, and Drishyam 3, a Malayalam-dubbed title.
The films arriving from tomorrow for this week are largely re-releases.
Samarasimha Reddy and Narasimha Naidu are returning to theatres to mark the birthday celebrations of Balakrishna, which fall on June 10.
Another re-release, Golimaar starring Gopichand, is scheduled for June 12, coinciding with the actor’s birthday.
Surya S/O Krishnan and Eeshwar are among the other older films returning to the big screen this week.
Interestingly, Surya S/O Krishnan has generated the strongest advance bookings so far, both in single-screen theatres and multiplexes. Balakrishna’s re-releases follow closely in ticket sales.
Eeshwar has recorded a decent response, while Golimaar has already sold tickets in at least one theatre, with bookings continuing.
The growing popularity of re-releases has become a notable trend in recent years.
Much of the demand is coming from Gen Z audiences eager to experience old films in a theatrical setting for the first time, like a Time Machine experience.
The phenomenon is providing an additional revenue stream for exhibitors and helping theatres attract audiences beyond new releases.
