Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, along with Jana Sena Party chief and deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan, is scheduled to visit New Delhi on
Tuesday to participate in a crucial meeting of NDA chief ministers and deputy chief ministers convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The meeting assumes significance as the Modi government marks two years of its third consecutive term at the Centre. Leaders from NDA-ruled states across the country are expected to attend the gathering.
According to political sources, discussions are likely to focus on the implementation of Central welfare schemes, development initiatives, Centre-state coordination and governance priorities ahead of future electoral challenges.
Prime Minister Modi is also expected to provide strategic guidance to NDA leaders with an eye on the 2029 general elections.
The meeting comes amid growing speculation over a possible expansion and reshuffle of the Union cabinet. Discussions on the role of NDA allies, political coordination and future governance priorities are also expected to feature prominently.
The Delhi visit could provide an opportunity for Naidu and Pawan Kalyan to display their loyalty to the top BJP leadership once again.
This discussion has been doing the rounds in political circles in the wake of the latest debate that the BJP national leadership has kept its options open with regard to a possible alliance with the YSR Congress Party, led by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, in Andhra Pradesh in the next elections.
The debate centred around Prof K Nageshwar’s comment that Modi would not trust Chandrababu Naidu, but would treat him only as an “instant ally,” while Jagan is his “permanent and trusted ally.”
According to this view, depending on the situation prevailing in 2029, Modi may not hesitate to dump Naidu and join hands with the YSRCP.
Against this backdrop, sources said Naidu and Pawan Kalyan might make every effort to convey to the BJP leadership that the present alliance is working well and that there is no need to entertain Jagan under any circumstances.
Apart from this issue, Andhra Pradesh securing an additional berth in the Union cabinet in the next reshuffle might also come up for discussion.
Similarly, there are reports that the TDP may be offered another Governor post as part of broader political adjustments.
