Shots were fired at Bharatiya Janata Party district trade cell chief Vijay Soni’s petrol pump in Gurdaspur on Wednesday night.
Giving details of the incident, BJP leader Soni said that he was sitting at his petrol pump at 10.30 pm, when two men arrived on a motorcycle with their faces covered and suddenly opened fire.
According to Soni, his bag was nearby and contained his licensed revolver. He immediately drew his revolver and fired two or three shots at the attackers in response, after which the assailants fled. No one was injured in the incident. However, his car was hit by two or three bullets. The incident was captured on the CCTV installed at the petrol pump.
The police have not issued any official statement in this matter till now.
Soni has been working for the BJP for a long time and heads the district trade cell. He claimed that he had been receiving threats and calls from foreign numbers for some time. After carrying out the attack, the assailants allegedly sent a message and an audio recording in which they demanded a ransom of Rs 2 crore. In the threatening message, they wrote that this was only a trailer, and if Rs 2 crore was not paid within 10 days, they would attack again.
