Netflix India opened applications for the Netflix NextGen India Writers’ Program on July 3, 2026. It targets early-career screenwriters with up to 3 years’ experience. The deadline is September 1, 2026. Selected writers will develop original series ideas directly for Netflix under expert guidance.
The hybrid program runs for two months. It begins with a week-long “simulated writers’ room” workshop in February 2027, followed by six weeks of online mentor sessions. Instructor Barbara Nance, a veteran TV writer, will guide participants to build detailed pitches and story arcs. Writers can submit applications via Netflix’s official website. Netflix India will announce selected candidates on December 15, 2026. Finalists get to pitch to Netflix India’s content team after training. Social media buzz calls it a rare gateway for fresh Indian voices into global streaming.
Netflix VP Monika Shergill said the goal is discovering new storytellers early and investing in them. India is the third country after France and Netherlands to get NextGen. Aspiring writers on X and LinkedIn praised the initiative, calling it a big push for diverse, homegrown web series.
