YSR Congress Party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is known for speaking his mind. Many say he does not think too much about political gains, losses or future consequences
. Whatever he believes, he says it openly.
In his latest press meet at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli, Jagan spoke on many issues. But the real political punch came at the end.
Jagan made it clear that “Mavigun” is his capital proposal. He said this is the policy of his party and that it will also be included in the party manifesto.
Soon after Jagan made the Mavigun announcement, strong reactions started coming from the Telugu Desam Party.
Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu said he could not understand what Mavigun meant. Several ministers and MLAs also started attacking Jagan over the proposal.
Ganta gave his own logic for this. He said that when Jagan went to the people with the three-capital plan in 2024, they gave him only 11 seats. If he now goes to the people with Mavigun as the only capital, he may not even get one seat, Ganta commented sarcastically.
He also criticised Jagan, saying that even after serving as chief minister for five years, he still lacked clarity and stability on important issues.
However, YSRCP leaders are also hitting back strongly at the criticism from Ganta and other TDP coalition leaders.
They are asking whether the TDP has forgotten that people gave Chandrababu Naidu only 23 seats in the 2019 elections when he went to the polls with Amaravati as the capital.
YSRCP leaders say people want development, along with corruption-free and clean governance.
Going by these reactions, Jagan’s Mavigun proposal has clearly created political tremors in Andhra Pradesh.
In the coming days, the debate over Mavigun versus Amaravati is likely to become more intense. It appears that this issue may become one of the major political talking points in the state.
