South actress Kayadu Lohar has opened up about a disturbing eve-teasing incident she faced when she was a school student. The actress made the revelation during an interview with Galatta Tamil
. Kayadu admitted that her reaction was violent, but said it came after days of frustration and anger.
Recalling the incident, Kayadu said she used to attend Grade 10 tuition classes near her house. On the way, a group of boys would harass her regularly.
“When I was in school, I used to go for Grade 10 tuition classes near my house. On the way, there were boys who eve-teased me. On the first day, I ignored it. On the second day also, I did the same. But on the third day, I just couldn’t take it,” she said.
Kayadu said she lost her temper and reacted strongly.
“I was so angry and agitated. I picked up a stone and threw it at them. It hit one of them on the head, and he started bleeding. I left from there. I don’t know what happened after that,” she recalled.
Looking back, Kayadu admitted that her reaction was extreme, but said it reflected the helplessness and anger she felt at that moment.
“I don’t think you can pick up a stone and break someone’s head. But that is what I felt then, and that is what I did. I may look quiet, but when someone does something wrong, I don’t think one should remain silent. You should give it back,” she said.
Her comments have once again highlighted the harassment many women face while going to school, college or work.
On the work front, Kayadu Lohar is gearing up for multiple releases, including Idhayam Murali and Immortal.
Aakash Baskaran’s Idhayam Murali is set to release on July 10, while Immortal, directed by Mariyappan Chinna, will release in theatres on July 23. The film also features G. V. Prakash Kumar.
Kayadu has worked in Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Marathi and Tamil films. She also has I’m Game, Khalifa and The Paradise in the pipeline.
