Pune Sadhu Vaswani Bridge Reconstruction December Deadline

The Pune civic body has set a December-end deadline to complete the railway overbridge, known as Sadhu Vaswani bridge, with the civic chief declaring to visit the site every month to inspect progress.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has undertaken reconstruction of the Sadhu Vaswani bridge after demolishing the older bridge. The bridge serves as the main crossover point between Pune camp, Ghorpadi and Koregaon Park, Bund Garden, Nagar road, Yerawada and Pune airport.

Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram on Tuesday visited the site and reviewed progress of work.

“Necessary coordination, permissions and technical aspects have been completed with the traffic police department and the railways… the pace of work has been accelerated,” he said.

The ‘open web girder railway span’, about 54-metres-long, on the railway line at Sadhu Vaswani is a very important and technically challenging part of the project, he said. “As more than 240 trains are transported here every day, it is necessary to plan the work while maintaining the safety of rail traffic.”

Also, the work of removing the existing overhead structures at the railway span has been undertaken by a newly appointed contractor and the work is planned to be completed within a week, he said, adding that thereafter the launching of the open web girder will be completed by the end of September. After the completion of the railway span, work on the remaining three spans will be taken up simultaneously.
