The Department of Consumer Affairs, Food and Civil Supplies, Government of Andhra Pradesh, manages theElectronic Point of Sale (EPDS) database for food security. Under the current administration, the state distributes subsidized essential grains (rice, sugar, pulses) through the network of Fair Price Shops (FPS) using biometric-enabled Rice Cards.

Difference between Rice Card and Pink Ration Card

AP issues two primary classes of ration cards to its citizens:

  • Rice Card (White Ration Card): Issued to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. This card is mandatory to receive subsidized rations and is the primary proof of eligibility for other welfare schemes.
  • Non-Scheduled (Pink Card): Issued to families above the poverty line. It acts primarily as an identity document and address proof, without subsidizing foodgrains.
