Allegations over illegal land transactions in and around Visakhapatnam during the previous YSR Congress Party government, which were once strongly raised by Telugu Desam Party leaders, appear to have gradually died down.
This has triggered speculation within political circles over whether some TDP leaders have reached an understanding with those accused of land encroachments.
According to TDP sources, individuals who were considered close to the previous YSRCP government and were allegedly involved in questionable land deals are still managing to secure favourable outcomes in key government departments under the present coalition government.
A senior retired IAS officer, who wielded considerable influence during the Jagan government while serving as Chief Secretary, has allegedly entered into an understanding with a key minister in the present Andhra Pradesh government through the minister’s close associates.
Political circles often refer to this group of associates as the “KIM team.”
Critics within the TDP are questioning how officials and individuals linked to the previous administration continue to allegedly influence important decisions even after the change in government, particularly in the Revenue Department.
According to allegations circulating within TDP circles, the retired Chief Secretary had allegedly acquired land worth thousands of crores in Anandapuram and Padmanabham mandals of Visakhapatnam district through benami arrangements during the YSRCP regime.
The allegations further claim that after the coalition government came to power, instead of launching a detailed investigation into these properties, an alleged settlement was reached between the former Chief Secretary’s group and associates of a key minister.
TDP sources claim that the alleged arrangement involved benefits running into hundreds of crores of rupees.
The controversy has now reportedly spread to areas around the newly inaugurated Bhogapuram International Airport, where allegations suggest that efforts are being made to acquire or consolidate additional land parcels.
Critics allege that certain individuals are using political and administrative influence to facilitate land transactions in the region.
According to these allegations, some of the same people who handled land transactions during the previous government have now joined hands with associates of a key minister in the present administration.
Officials in the Revenue Department and other government departments are also being accused of extending cooperation to the group.
Since the coalition government came to power in Andhra Pradesh, the alleged “KIM team” is said to have focused heavily on land in and around Visakhapatnam.
With major industrial and infrastructure projects coming up in the region, land values are expected to rise significantly. TDP sources allege that this has led to a strategic effort to build a large land bank while political influence is available.
A serving IAS officer was also quoted by sources as saying that certain individuals and companies were allegedly being used for this purpose.
The allegations reportedly extend to transactions involving the Daspalla properties, as well as properties allegedly linked to the former Chief Secretary.
TDP sources claim that associates of the key minister could potentially benefit by thousands of crores of rupees if these alleged land deals go through.
However, these claims remain allegations and have not been independently established.
