Suriya’s Vishwanath and Sons is showing strong momentum at the North American box office, with Day 2 collections indicating that the film is holding extremely well.
As of 10 AM PST, the film had grossed $257K from 237 locations on Day 2. The Telugu version contributed $159K, while the Tamil version added $98K.
With shows filling up quickly and capacity issues being reported at several locations, trade circles now believe the film could go close to $500K on Day 2.
Earlier expectations were around the $400K mark, but the strong pace has pushed projections higher.
The film had already made a solid start with its premieres and opening day.
Vishwanath and Sons collected $676K from 301 locations in North America from premieres and Day 1 combined.
Of this, the Telugu version contributed $436K, while the Tamil version collected $240K.
The film’s total overseas opening-day gross stood at $1.45 million, approximately Rs 13.84 crore.
With these numbers, Vishwanath and Sons has emerged as Suriya’s biggest opener in North America and overseas markets.
The overseas breakeven is pegged at around $4.25 million, and the film has already recovered nearly 33% of that target on the opening day itself.
The strong North American trend is particularly encouraging, as the film appears to be benefiting from good word of mouth and growing demand for weekend shows.
If the current momentum continues, Vishwanath and Sons could post a very strong first weekend overseas and move significantly closer to its breakeven target.
