Vijayasai Reddy on Wednesday put an end to speculation over his political future by announcing that he would launch a new political party instead of returning to the YSR Congress Party, from which he had resigned. Sai Reddy made the announcement after offering prayers at the Tirumala temple on Wednesday. Speaking about his political plans, he said he wanted to bring a new kind of politics to Andhra Pradesh and establish a new party to give voice to the concerns of the people.
He said he would announce his political roadmap later this month and sought the blessings of Lord Venkateswara for his political journey. He also said he would reveal complete details about the proposed party at a media conference in Vijayawada.
Sai Reddy said he had also prayed for the country’s prosperity and for it to remain unaffected by adverse El Niño conditions.
His clear announcement about launching a new political party has effectively ended speculation that he might return to the YSRCP.
Sai Reddy had resigned from both the Rajya Sabha and the YSRCP last year and announced that he was quitting active politics. At the time, he said he wanted to focus on agriculture.
However, a few months later, he surprised political circles by indicating that he would make a comeback with a new political party. He also announced plans to launch a media organisation.
Since then, he has remained active on social media, regularly commenting on political and national developments. However, he did not make any concrete announcement about the proposed party for several months.
More recently, speculation intensified that Sai Reddy could rejoin the YSRCP. He later responded to those reports by saying that he would soon reveal details about his political re-entry, future plans and course of action at a media conference.
He also asserted that he has an independent ideology and would take decisions in the interests of the people of Andhra Pradesh without succumbing to pressure, inducements or external influence.
Following those remarks, speculation began on social media over the possible name of his new political outfit. Some reports claimed that he was considering the name “Bharat Jana Vikas”, though Sai Reddy has not yet formally announced the party’s name.
There is also speculation that he is not working alone to establish the new political organisation and that several influential individuals are backing the initiative.
Sources indicate that Sai Reddy is considering organising meetings and public gatherings across different regions after formally announcing the party and its political agenda.
His proposed political entry assumes significance in the backdrop of the increasingly intense contest between the ruling NDA alliance and the YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh.
The key question now is what political space Sai Reddy’s new party will try to occupy, whose votes it could potentially affect, and whether its emergence would benefit or hurt the ruling alliance or the YSRCP.
