Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has suffered a massive drop on its first Monday, raising fresh concerns about the film’s long-term box office run.
The Geetu Mohandas directorial was one of the most anticipated films of the year and opened to huge numbers last Wednesday. However, audience reactions were largely mixed to negative, with criticism mainly directed at the screenplay and excessive violence.
After showing some momentum over the extended weekend, Toxic witnessed a sharp fall on Day 6.
The film collected Rs 7.45 crore net in India on Monday across 13,400 shows. This represents a massive 67.6% drop from Sunday’s Rs 23 crore net collection.
With this, Toxic has reached Rs 221.55 crore net in India, while its India gross stands at Rs 264.80 crore.
Overseas, the film collected another Rs 2 crore on Day 6, taking its total overseas gross to Rs 39.25 crore.
The worldwide gross has now crossed the Rs 300 crore mark and stands at Rs 304.05 crore.
While crossing Rs 300 crore worldwide is a major numerical milestone, the first-Monday crash is likely to worry the trade, especially considering the massive expectations surrounding the film.
The comparison with Yash’s previous blockbuster KGF: Chapter 2 makes the situation even more striking.
KGF: Chapter 2 had collected around Rs 430.15 crore net in India within its first five days. Toxic, in comparison, has earned less than half of that figure during the same early phase of its theatrical run.
Yash’s star power clearly delivered a bumper opening for Toxic, but the steep Monday fall suggests that the film is struggling to sustain that initial momentum.
The next few weekdays will now be crucial. If collections continue to fall sharply, Toxic could face a difficult theatrical journey despite crossing Rs 300 crore worldwide.
