A 26-year-old software engineer from Andhra Pradesh has died in a tragic road accident in Ohio, United States, after a pickup truck crossed the median and crashed head-on into his car.
The victim, Dileep Kumar Bungatavula, was a native of Jettivaripalli village in Kadapa district. He had moved to the US for higher studies and completed his Master of Science from Kent State University in 2025.
According to police, the accident took place on Interstate 480 in the Macedonia area of Ohio. Dileep was travelling in a sedan when a pickup truck coming from the opposite direction reportedly crossed the centre median and collided with his vehicle.
Emergency teams rushed to the spot, but Dileep was declared dead at the scene. Three other people were injured in the crash and were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police said the exact circumstances that led to the accident are still under investigation.
The Consulate General of India in New York confirmed Dileep’s death and said it is extending all possible assistance to his family in India.
In a post on X, the consulate said it was deeply saddened by the untimely death of Dileep Kumar Bungatavula in the Ohio car accident on August 7, 2026, and expressed condolences to his family.
The North America Telugu Society has also started a fundraiser to support Dileep’s family.
According to the organisation, Dileep’s father, Sreehari Bungatavula, is a farmer and the family comes from modest financial circumstances. His parents had reportedly made major sacrifices to support his education in the US, hoping that he would build a successful career.
Family members said Dileep had recently completed his studies and had started working for a software company in the United States.
The family is now making arrangements to bring his mortal remains back to India for the final rites.
