The Andhra Pradesh government on Wednesday ordered the transfer of Gudivada One Town Sub-Inspector K. Satyanarayana to vacancy reserve (VR) following an incident involving former minister and senior YSR Congress Party leader Kodali Nani during protests over alleged irregularities in the Mega DSC recruitment process.
The action followed allegations that Nani, despite being placed under house arrest on the instructions of senior police officials, was allowed to leave his residence and participate in a protest rally organised by the YSRCP in Gudivada.
The YSRCP has been holding protests across the state demanding action over alleged irregularities in the Mega DSC recruitment process. As part of the campaign, Kodali Nani had called for a protest in Gudivada.
In view of the proposed protest, police were reportedly directed by senior officials to prevent Nani from participating and place him under house arrest.
Acting on those instructions, Gudivada One Town SI Satyanarayana went to Nani’s residence and served him with house-arrest orders. It was initially believed that the former minister would not be able to take part in the DSC protest.
However, Nani later came out of his residence and participated in a rally organised as part of the YSRCP protest programme.
Allegations were subsequently raised that the local SI had gone soft on Nani and facilitated his participation despite directions from senior officials.
TDP leaders reportedly lodged a complaint over the incident, following which Satyanarayana was sent to VR.
The YSRCP, however, gave a different version of the episode and alleged that the SI was being penalised over the way he handled the situation involving Kodali Nani.
In a social media post, the party claimed that orders had been issued from the district Superintendent of Police’s office to send Satyanarayana to VR.
The party alleged that the SI had initially denied permission for the YSRCP rally in Gudivada and had served notices on Nani, saying the protest had not been permitted.
The YSRCP further alleged that when Nani reached the protest camp, the SI behaved rudely with the former minister, triggering criticism.
The incident has now turned into another political controversy, with the TDP and YSRCP presenting sharply different versions of what happened.
