A 26-year-old grocer died by suicide in Pimpri-Chinchwad’s Bhosari area after a customer allegedly threatened to file a complaint accusing him of stealing her earring that had fallen at his shop, the police said.
According to the Bhosari police, Vinod Pemaram Chowdhary, a resident of Destination Kshitij Society, killed himself on July 27 at the building he lived in.
The police booked a woman identified as Saroj Mane on the charge of abetment of suicide on Saturday after the victim’s father filed a complaint against her.
According to the police complaint filed by Pemaram Lasaram Chowdhary, the woman initially demanded Rs 85,000 from Vinod and threatened to file a police complaint against him if he refused to give her the money. The FIR states that she took Rs 1 lakh from Vinod but demanded an additional Rs 55,000. She also allegedly approached Vinod with another person to threaten him again.
Complaint filed after returning from Rajasthan
Senior Police Inspector Sandip Ghorpade said, “The victim’s family took his dead body to their native place in Rajasthan for last rites. They lodged the complaint of abetment of suicide after returning. The investigation is on. No arrest has been made yet in this case.”
As per the legal procedure, the police had earlier filed an accidental death report after being informed of the alleged suicide last month.
