A family celebration in Panchkula on Friday night turned into a tragedy after a man and his brother-in-law were found murdered within hours of each other. The deceased have been identified as Sanjeet and his brother-in-law Arjun Kashyap. According to preliminary information, Sanjeet had organised a 'Chhathi' function in Sector 19 to celebrate the birth of his son, born six days ago, during which he picked up an argument with Kashyap, who had come for the event. According to the police, Sanjeet left for Abhaypur on some work in the midst of the event, and while returning, a group of youths allegedly started following him. Sensing danger, Sanjeet called his cousin, Vipin, and informed him. Vipin immediately alerted other family members, who set out to search for him, the police said. A short while later, Sanjeet was found lying in a pool of blood near the Sector 19 Industrial Area underpass, said an officer. His family rushed him to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6, where doctors declared him dead. Initially, the family members suspected that Kashyap had murdered Sanjeet. However, around 4 am on Saturday, the police revisited the crime scene along with Sanjeet's family for further investigation. The case took a more complicated turn when they found Kashyap’s blood-soaked body, lying a few metres away from the same spot. 'All angles being probed' The police from the Sector 19 police post, Sector 20 police station, and the Crime Branch and forensic experts reached the spot, secured the crime scene, and shifted the bodies for post-mortem examination. Officials said the exact sequence of events and cause of death would become clearer after the post-mortem reports, while all possible angles are being examined. Officials of the Panchkula police are also looking into reports that Arjun had married Sanjeet's sister in a love marriage a few months ago, following which relations between the two families had reportedly remained strained. The police are probing whether the earlier family dispute played any role in the fatal incident. Senior police officers, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) visited the spot.
