Telangana Rakshana Sena president and former MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha is reportedly seeking astrological guidance about the future of her newly formed political party, amid concerns over its limited traction among established political leaders and the challenges of building a new political organisation from scratch.
According to reports, Kavitha recently met prominent astrologer Radhan Pandit Vetrivel, who is said to have advised Tamil Nadu actor-turned-politician and Chief Minister Joseph Vijay on political matters. The astrologer is believed to have gained considerable attention following Vijay’s political success.
Kavitha reportedly met the astrologer along with her son and a few close associates and discussed her political future, the prospects of her new party, astrological factors affecting her career and possible remedies.
The meeting has attracted attention because Kavitha’s political organisation is nearing five months since its formation, but major political leaders have so far not shown significant interest in joining or aligning with her party.
Kavitha is understood to be facing the difficult task of building the party largely on her own. While there has reportedly been some public response to her political activities, the new party is yet to gain the momentum its founder had expected.
Financial constraints and the absence of the anticipated level of donations are also believed to have added to the challenges.
Radhan Pandit Vetrivel, who is from Erode and follows Vedic astrology, reportedly became more prominent after his association with Vijay. His clientele is said to include several prominent political figures and celebrities.
One of the key issues reportedly discussed during the consultation was Kavitha’s name and the use of the surname “Kalvakuntla”.
According to reports, the astrologer advised her to consider distancing herself completely from the surname Kalvakuntla and possibly change the way her name is used in public life.
Traditionally, after marriage, Kavitha’s surname would be associated with her marital family, Devanapalli. However, she has continued to use Kalvakuntla, her maiden surname, which also carries considerable political significance because of its association with her father and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.
The Kalvakuntla surname also carries emotional value among sections of Telangana society because of its association with the Telangana movement and KCR’s political legacy.
Reports suggest that Kavitha had previously considered dropping the Kalvakuntla surname following her political estrangement from her family and the BRS leadership, but kept the decision pending after weighing its possible political advantages and disadvantages.
Two possible alternatives reportedly discussed are using simply “Kavitha” or adopting a form incorporating her marital surname, such as “Kavitha D”.
The speculation has drawn comparisons with former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, who was known to have made changes to the spelling of her name on astrological advice.
The astrologer is also said to have examined Kavitha’s horoscope and advised her that while the 10th house, traditionally associated with career and political prominence, was strong, there were difficulties in the ninth house, which is associated with fortune.
According to reports, Mars, the Sun and Saturn were considered strong in her horoscope, while Rahu was said to be unfavourable. As a result, she was reportedly advised that achieving a major political breakthrough over the next two years would require considerable effort.
Whether Kavitha will eventually alter her name or follow any of the reported astrological recommendations remains unclear.
