According to sources in the YSRCP, Y.S. Harsha Reddy, the elder daughter of party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, is likely to make her political debut in the 2029 elections.
Reports suggest that the YSRCP is considering fielding Harsha Reddy from the Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency in the 2029 general elections.
The Kadapa parliamentary seat has traditionally been regarded as a stronghold of the YSR family for several decades. Jagan Mohan Reddy himself represented the constituency in the Lok Sabha before becoming Chief Minister. The seat is currently represented by Jagan’s cousin, Y.S. Avinash Reddy.
Party sources claim that a decision has already been taken in principle to allot the Kadapa Lok Sabha ticket to Harsha Reddy and that preparations are being made for her entry into electoral politics.
Jagan is also reportedly making arrangements to give greater responsibilities to his two daughters in the family’s business interests.
According to YSRCP leaders, Harsha Reddy, who has completed her master’s degree at the prestigious INSEAD business school in Paris, has in recent months been overseeing certain aspects of the Sakshi media group’s operations.
Harsha Reddy’s possible candidature from Kadapa could also lead to changes in the political future of sitting MP Avinash Reddy.
At present, there is no clarity on whether Avinash Reddy would be shifted to another Lok Sabha constituency.
There is also a possibility that the party could consider fielding him for the Assembly in the next elections if Harsha Reddy is given the Kadapa parliamentary seat.
