Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja’s family drama and thriller Irumudi held its pre-release event in the presence of several special guests, including Bobby, Buchi Babu Sana, Rahul Sankrityan and Sai Rajesh.
Mythri Ravi expressed strong confidence in the film, describing Irumudi as an emotional and thrilling commercial entertainer centred on an Ayyappa devotee.
“We wanted to make one thing clear. Irumudi is a thriller and an emotional journey presented in a commercial format, with an Ayyappa devotee at its centre. Shiva Nirvana has delivered the film much better than what we had imagined. I am certain that it is going to be a blockbuster,” he said.
He also revealed that the production house is planning another film with Ravi Teja.
“We are also planning to make a full-on hilarious mass entertainer with Ravi Teja, with a character that reminds me of his energy in the first half of Vikramarkudu,” he added.
Director Shiva Nirvana explained that Irumudi was not originally written around the Ayyappa backdrop. According to him, the spiritual element developed naturally from the emotional core of the story.
“This story began with the idea of a father giving his daughter the freedom to tell him anything that happens in her life. The father is a middle-class man with a drinking habit, but he is basically a good person who loves his daughter deeply,” Shiva Nirvana said.
He added that while exploring the problems faced by girls through the daughter’s character, he began thinking about how the father could control his anger and emotions.
“That was when I thought, what if he wears the mala? That became the seed for the story. I did not write this film specifically for an Ayyappa backdrop,” he explained.
Shiva Nirvana also made it clear that audiences should not expect a light-hearted family entertainer.
“Telugu cinema has seen many good thrillers, but we believe this is the first time an intense family drama is being combined with a thriller in this manner. Please do not assume that the film is light-hearted. It is extremely intense. The final 40 minutes will completely immerse audiences in a human drama,” he said.
The director also spoke about the much-awaited Mallepoola Pallaki song.
“We wanted an Ayyappa song in which the hero sings with tremendous energy at the right moment. Everyone suggested Mallepoola Pallaki. We initially used it as a small lead in the film, but later the song generated a lot of discussion on social media,” he said.
He added that original singer Dappu Srinu was brought back to retain the song’s original flavour.
“In Irumudi, audiences will see the song at exactly the right moment and with the right energy, with around 100 swamis taking part in the sequence,” he said.
Ravi Teja, meanwhile, praised the film’s technicians and performances.
“Production designer Sahi Suresh, editor Prawin Pudi and all the technicians have completely owned the film. This is my first time working with DOP Vishnu Sarma, and he ran along with us throughout the shoot. I definitely want to work with him again,” Ravi Teja said.
He also praised G.V. Prakash Kumar’s background score.
“GV Prakash has given extraordinary background music. I watched the film once without the BGM, and I am going to watch it again with the BGM. This film is going to give audiences a very strong emotional ride, and I am extremely excited,” he said.
Ravi Teja added that every character in the film has significance.
“Swasika literally scares with her performance. Some characters in this film will remain in your memory. Ramesh Indra’s character is excellent. There is no need to specially introduce Sai Kumar, but audiences will see a different Sai Kumar in this film. This is not just the story of one father; it is the story of two fathers,” he said.
He was particularly impressed with child actress Nakshatra.
“Mark my words, Nakshatra is going to become a big heroine in the future. She has a very bright future ahead. Our scenes together are going to be hard-hitting,” Ravi Teja said.
He also praised Priya Bhavani Shankar, saying she suited the character of Kaveri perfectly and delivered a strong performance.
Calling the Mythri producers close friends, Ravi Teja said he shares a special relationship with them.
“This is my third film with the producers. I don’t think anyone else is as open with them as I am. I want to do many more films with them. I will speak about director Shiva at the success meet,” he said.
Overall, Ravi Teja and the team sounded highly confident about Irumudi, particularly its emotional intensity, performances and theatrical impact.
