Iit Delhi Msc Physics Student Death Sixth Floor

A 31-year-old MSc Physics student at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi allegedly jumped to death from the sixth floor of a building on the campus on Saturday morning, police said.

According to a preliminary inquiry, the deceased had entered IIT Delhi campus through the main gate around 8 am. He subsequently went to the Lecture Hall Complex and took a lift to the sixth floor. He then allegedly jumped from the front side of the building, a senior police officer said.

DCP (Southwest) Amit Goel said a PCR call was received at Kishangarh police station at 8.33 am regarding the incident. “A police team immediately reached the spot and found the injured student. He was rushed to the IIT Delhi campus hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead,” he added.

Investigators are examining his mobile phone and obtaining records from the institute to establish the circumstances preceding his death, police said.

A crime team and a forensic science laboratory unit were called to collect evidence. During investigation, police allegedly found no apparent injury marks on the deceased other than those attributable to the fall.

No suicide note has also been recovered so far, said police, adding that a mobile phone was found in the pocket of the deceased, which would be examined, the officer said.

Police said they are obtaining the student’s counselling records and other relevant information from the institute. “The team is verifying available facts and examining the circumstances surrounding the student’s movements before the incident,” the officer said.

This was the second alleged suicide at the institute this year: a 19-year-old BTech student was found dead inside his apartment on the campus in March.
