Tamil Nadu politics has once again seen controversy over remarks involving actor Trisha, with senior AIADMK leader R.B. Udhayakumar facing criticism for comments aimed at Chief Minister Vijay. Speaking at a party event, Udhayakumar reportedly asked when Trisha would be appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. “Tamil Nadu is waiting to see when Vijay’s ‘beloved’ Trisha will be made Deputy Chief Minister,” he was quoted as saying. Speaking at a party event, Udhayakumar reportedly asked when Trisha would be appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
“Tamil Nadu is waiting to see when Vijay’s ‘beloved’ Trisha will be made Deputy Chief Minister,” he was quoted as saying.
The remarks were allegedly made during a Jayalalithaa Peravai meeting in Thoothukudi on August 8, while Udhayakumar was criticising the Tamil Nadu government over the Cauvery water issue.
He was also reportedly targeting Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam over recent appointments involving people from the film industry. Producer Archana Kalapathy was recently appointed to a special seven-member state-level committee under the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department.
However, Udhayakumar’s comment on Trisha has triggered strong criticism.
The Trisha Fans Association reportedly put up posters across Madurai condemning the AIADMK leader’s remarks and demanding that women in public life be treated with respect.
This is not the first time Trisha’s name has been dragged into political attacks against Vijay.
Last week, Udhayanidhi Stalin also faced criticism over an alleged double-meaning remark involving Trisha during a political rally. The controversy began after some people in the crowd reportedly started chanting Trisha’s name.
The women’s wing of TVK later filed a complaint with Thanjavur Police, alleging that Udhayanidhi had made an objectionable remark targeting the actress.
Udhayanidhi has denied making any inappropriate comment. The DMK has also maintained that his remarks were misinterpreted and were not directed at Trisha.
Earlier this year, BJP leader Nainar Nagendran had also made a controversial comment linking Vijay and Trisha, following which Trisha’s legal team reportedly responded.
Rumours about Vijay and Trisha have been circulating for some time, but there has been no verified confirmation from either of them about any relationship.
Even so, Trisha’s name continues to be repeatedly used in political attacks against Vijay, raising fresh questions about the personal and misogynistic tone entering Tamil Nadu’s political discourse.
