Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das has approached the Delhi High Court, filing a ₹2 crore suit against political commentator Abhijit Iyer Mitra and several media organisations, alleging that they violated his privacy by publishing his residential address and other personal information in the public domain.
Das has named a legal news portal, a media platform, and social media accounts associated with another portal and a newspaper as defendants.
He has alleged that he has been residing in a rented property in Greater Kailash since early 2025 and that representatives of a media platform trespassed onto the premises, recorded its interiors and subsequently published the footage on X on August 5.
The video, the suit said, garnered more than 2.1 million views and was republished on August 10.
Das has alleged that Mitra disclosed details of his residence during a programme hosted by the news portal, identifying his neighbour and incorrectly stating that the monthly rent was around ₹7 lakh.
Mitra, he said, subsequently published multiple posts containing the alleged personal information.
Besides damages, the suit also seeks an injunction restraining the defendants from further publishing or disseminating such content and directions to take down the videos.
The repeated disclosure of his personal information, particularly in light of his prior exposure to violent threats, materially increases the risk of hostile persons locating his residence and exposes him and his family members to intimidation, harassment and physical violence, the suit said.
