Senior YSR Congress Party leader and former Andhra Pradesh minister Botsa Satyanarayana on Wednesday confirmed that his daughter, Botsa Anusha, will enter electoral politics, marking the entry of another generation of the influential Botsa family into active politics.
Speaking informally to the media on Wednesday, Botsa Satyanarayana said Anusha would contest the upcoming local body elections. He indicated that she could be fielded for the post of Vizianagaram Zilla Parishad chairperson.
He made it clear that she would contest regardless of whether the elections are conducted directly or indirectly.
The announcement has generated interest in north Andhra Pradesh politics, where the Botsa family has maintained a strong political presence for nearly four decades.
Anusha is currently pursuing medical education but has already been making occasional appearances at political programmes and public events. Her proposed entry into electoral politics is expected to make the Vizianagaram Zilla Parishad elections particularly significant, given the political influence of the Botsa family in the region.
Botsa Satyanarayana began his political career as a student leader in 1978. He later became president of the Vizianagaram District Central Cooperative Bank.
In 1999, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Bobbili on a Congress ticket. He later entered the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Cheepurupalli and went on to serve as a minister in the governments headed by Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, K. Rosaiah and N. Kiran Kumar Reddy.
He also served as president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee. Following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, Botsa joined the YSR Congress Party and later served as a minister in the Cabinet of then Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
His wife, Botsa Jhansi, also has an established political career. She served twice as chairperson of the Vizianagaram Zilla Parishad and was also elected to the Lok Sabha from Vizianagaram.
Botsa Satyanarayana’s brother, Botsa Appalanarasayya, was elected as the YSRCP MLA from Gajapathinagaram in the 2019 Assembly elections.
With Anusha’s proposed entry, four members of the Botsa family will have entered electoral politics, further strengthening the family’s longstanding political presence in north Andhra Pradesh.
Her entry is also expected to have an impact on local political equations in Vizianagaram, particularly if she is formally fielded for the Zilla Parishad chairperson’s post.
