Ravi Telugu Traveller, a popular Telugu travel vlogger who has visited several airports in India and abroad, shared his first-day review of the new Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, popularly known as Bhogapuram Airport.
His review presents a balanced picture. While he was impressed by the airport’s cultural identity, interiors and future potential, he also pointed out several concerns related to terminal design, connectivity, maintenance and passenger convenience.
Ravi flew from Bengaluru specifically to document the opening of the new airport, which is seen as an important infrastructure milestone for Visakhapatnam and the Uttarandhra region.
Strong cultural identity: Ravi appreciated the way the airport showcases the heritage of Uttarandhra. He particularly highlighted the massive 145-foot LED screen displaying local traditions and art forms, including Kuchipudi, Etikoppaka dolls and Kondapalli toys.
Meaningful name: He welcomed the decision to name the airport after freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju.
Beautiful interiors: Ravi praised the interiors, decorations and central roof design, describing the overall look as attractive, modern and sparkling.
Future potential: He expressed happiness that Visakhapatnam now has major new airport infrastructure and said it could support the city’s growth into a major metropolitan hub.
Large site for expansion: Spread across around 2,200–2,700 acres, the airport has significant scope for future expansion. Its initial capacity is around six million passengers annually, with the master plan reportedly designed to handle more than 40 million passengers a year in the future.
Terminal layout: Ravi’s biggest structural concern was that arrivals and departures are located on the same floor level. He felt this may not offer the smooth passenger movement seen at some modern international airports.
Passenger access: He questioned the lack of convenient ramps and direct drop-off arrangements near the terminal entrance, saying passengers may have to walk farther than expected.
Distance from the city: Ravi pointed out that the airport’s location away from Visakhapatnam could create connectivity challenges and lead to higher taxi costs for passengers.
Maintenance concerns: He noticed visible paint marks and some unfinished cleaning and finishing work on walls and doors, even on the opening day.
Charging points: He also highlighted the limited availability of easily accessible charging points near passenger seating areas.
Ravi gave Bhogapuram Airport a rating of 7/10.
His overall assessment is that the airport is visually impressive, culturally rooted, spacious and full of future potential. However, he believes improvements are needed in terminal planning, passenger accessibility, maintenance and basic amenities for it to become a truly world-class airport.
Overall, Ravi welcomed the new infrastructure while remaining critical of the areas that, in his view, still need improvement.
