A tiny English village has symbolically voted to “leave” the UK in protest against plans to house more than 1,200 asylum seekers at a nearby former military base. Piddington’s tongue-in-cheek referendum has no legal force, but 285 of 312 ballots backed secession, with residents declaring their village the “principality of Piddington”.
